80'S THROWBACK SPRAY DESIGN HOOK RAIL SAND FINISH
The Hook Rail is an archived model from the 80's era originally designed by Steve Boehne and Terry Senate.
The "hook" described the unique bottom rail shape that grips through turns and rail transitions at the tail wing.
This model was a team favorite and one of our most popular boards in the early thruster era. For 2022 Dave Boehne took the original templates and spec'd out one of his original boards from his wall collection and reimagined this design for today's modern era without sacrificing the Hook Rail's original magic.
This board has a very moderate rocker throughout starting with a slow flowing entry rocker and continuing through a smooth constant curve and leaving the tail with a low exit rocker out the tail keeping this board super fast, predictable and forgiving for every day conditions.
The bottom shape has a slight vee that enters the board on entry which gives the flatter rocker entry more play. This vee carries down the middle of the board as it hits the wing the "hooked" bottom edge is introduced and complimented by a deep vee in the sweet spot which gives this board the magic combo of rail to rail transition with grip. This vee continues out the tailblock behind the fin.
The deck and outline have the 80's influenced flatter deck and boxy rail that has a moderate angle which leads down to the tucked edges. The outline has a slightly narrower nose compared to a modern shortboard with a wing in front of the fins to free up the wide tail. This board has a lot of get up and go and the wider tail keeps pace in flat spots of the wave.
Original shortboard Hook Rails were ridden longer and narrower but these are designed for more everyday surf conditions. This board could kind of be categorized as a groveler shortboard but really it has a much wider range than that. Match up your volume or your small wave volume and you are good to go.
